Chapter 1 - Day 1 and 2 on Kauai.
At Grand Hyatt one of the most interesting landmarks is the large Koi pond and waterfall. The pond is directly behind the hotel. The hotel restaurant Tidepools, which we enjoyed the first night sits over the Koi pond. Needless to say as soon as I sat down my spoon ended up in the bottom of the Koi pond. The Tidepools was OK for the price, it wasn't great. The best part of dinner was watching the Koi swim around. I kept feeding the Koi bread from the table, and they would swarm around for crumbs in a feeding frenzy.
The grounds of the Grand Hyatt are simply spectacular, besides the beach and Koi pond there are beautiful flowers planted on the grounds.
One the second day of our trip we decided to go to Waimea Canyon. On the way we stopped and at at the Camp House Grill. It's a shack in Kalaheo, but it serves a great breakfast. I forgot to take a picture, but I hopefully we'll get back before leaving the island.
The Waimea Canyon is the largest canyon on the island of Kauai. According to our guide book Mark Twain referred to as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific". The pictures where taken at 3400 ft above sea level. The top of the Canyon is at 4000 ft. It was fogged in and raining.
