Rented a 4 bedroom house a few blocks from the town of Hilo in Hawaii.
Trip to the Volcano
Volcano Winery
No stop is complete to a volcano, without first visiting the winery. Most of the grapes are brought in from the mainland,
but they do make some wine from macadamia nuts. The wine was not very good.
Volcano
We decided to walk around thw volcano, well actually the southern half was closed, so we walked 2.5 miles from the visitor center
to the observatory and museum and walked 2.5 miles back to the vistor center. However arriving at the volcano, we were unprepared
for a hike of this magnitude. Luck for us, the gift shop sold nice water bottles, so we had a wonderful adventure and got a useful
souvenir.
Trip to the Akaka Falls
Akaka Falls
We visited Akaka Falls just north of Hilo. The fall is 420 ft. The State park has a walk around of about 1/2 mile.
Trip to the Hawai'i Tropical Botanical Garden
Hawai'i Tropical Botanical Garden
Maybe one of the most beautiful and lucious botanical gardens we have visited. It was donated by Dan Lutkenhouse. It was amazing
based on the plants from all over.
